The students of 4th year MBBS are taken to the field 4
times a week in small batches of 24. As total number of students is 250
so every student visits the outfield once in ten days time. In the field
different desks have been created for effective functioning and the students
change their assignments after every 20 minutes so that each student has
equal chance of learning skills in such a primary health care setup. The
whole exercise takes about 2-3 hours during which 200-250 patients are
seen. They are not only given medicine but are also adequately educated
on common public health issues. This training program is a continuous process
even during vacations, when students work voluntarily with staff of the
department.
